Marcia Lucas Remembers Winning Star Wars Oscar Posted By Scott on March 26, 2003
The San Francisco Chronicle talked with past Oscar winners about their experience at the ceremonies. They happened to chat with Marcia Lucas about winning for Star Wars:
Marcia Lucas won a film-editing Oscar in 1978 for her work on "Star Wars," which was directed by her then-husband George Lucas. She received the award with co-editors Richard Chew and Paul Hirsch.
Q: Did your acceptance speech go as you planned it?
A: Pretty much, yes. There were three of us, and we all determined that we'd let Paul make the speech. He's a rock-solid guy. But it kind of surprised me because he ended up thanking Brian DePalma for his career. And he was up there taking the Oscar because of George.
Q: Where is your Oscar right now? Why there?
A: It's moved around a lot of places. And every time my teenage daughter has a party, I stick it in a drawer and hide it. Kids kind of like to see it, but sometimes there are kids I don't know, and I don't want it to disappear. Right now it's on top of the television in the living room.
