John Williams Concert Rundown

Posted By Mike on November 26, 2007

Our buddy John Tenuto sent us the following rundown from the John Williams concert in Chicago with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra:

"The John Williams Concert was spectacular. He opened with the Superman theme, a truly rousing rendition of the music. Indiana Jones got much attention. For his "Techniques of Film Music" talk, John Williams utilized the opening scenes from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. He started by showing the film with no sound, explaining how he might think about the music. Then, with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra playing, he showed the scene again with music. Amazing! The audience clapped and laughed. It is truly wonderful for 1000 people to be reminded of some of the greatest feature film moments. He mentioned that he took a brief vacation from scoring Indiana Jones 4 to be with us at the CSO. He said that Harrison Ford was doing about 60% of his own stunts and that he looks really great as Indiana Jones. He was very positive about the film. The main theme of Star Wars brought the most applause from the audience. One of his encores was the Imperial March. Attending a concert with John Williams conducting is a surreal experience. He has provided us Star Wars fans with not only the soundtracks of our favorite films, yet really the soundtracks of our everyday experiences. Fans have a paranormal attachment to John Williams. We don't really know him, he doesn't know us. Yet we feel an immediate connection to him and his music. It is a kind of gratitude that we feel for the music that makes attending a John Williams concert a near familial event with the other 1000 people. It is like seeing Elvis, the Beatles, Mozart, and DaVinci at the same time. For more about his concert, there is the CSO website www.cso.org There is a Tuesday concert."

Thanks John and we wish you and your wife a very happy anniversary!!!
