C.Andrew Nelson May Be The Nicest Guy Ever

Posted By Mike on June 22, 2008

See below for a very cool fan / Star Wars celeb story from Jarad in San Francisco:

"I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. There are quite a few famous people here. Not as many as there are down in Los Angeles, but there are a lot. My friends keep telling me how they ran into this ball player or that musician somewhere. I always joke that the only way I'm going to be impressed is if they tell me they ran into someone from Star Wars. Well, it finally happened. Not to my friends, but to ME!

I was shopping yesterday at Target. As I turned a corner to go down the aisle I was looking for in the electronics section there was C. Andrew Nelson. I recognized him right away from meeting him at WonderCon back in February. I wasn't going to say anything to him because he was with his kids and I didn't want to bother him. I didn't want to stare at him either because that would be rude, but I kept thinking to myself, "Oh my gosh I'm shopping with Darth Vader!"

I guess I must have been staring a little bit because he caught me looking at him. Knowing I was busted as a fanboy and hoping he wasn't ticked off about it I sort of quietly said, "Hi Mr. Nelson." I was ready for the big brush off. Meeting actors at conventions is one thing because they are there for that purpose. Meeting them in public when they are just trying to spend time with their families is something else. And I didn't think having on a Star Wars T-shirt and cap was helping matters.

He was totally cool though! He said, "Hi there. Nice shirt." (Yes, it was a Darth Vader shirt.) Then he totally blew me away by saying, "Hey didn't you come to see me at WonderCon?"

NO FREAKING WAY! He actually remembered talking with me! I was nearly speechless. He said that he's terrible with names but excellent with faces. And he stopped his shopping for a moment to chat with me about the projects he had been working on, about having worked on the effects for Jumper and The Spiderwick Chronicles, and about a new game he worked on called Insecticide. He also made mention of a new project that he was developing and producing that he couldn't talk about yet. I got the impression that it was something that he was going to be acting in as well. (I wasn't about to push him for any specifics.)

Let me tell you that Andrew (he kept telling me to stop calling him "Mr. Nelson") is the nicest guy in the galaxy. Any actor or artist who takes the time to stop what they're doing in their private life and chat with a fan geek like me is number one in my book.

BTW, Andrew also mentioned that this Sunday (the 22nd) is his birthday. Actually his kids spilled the beans on that one and he confirmed it. He said he was looking forward to a nice quiet birthday as a break from his busy scedule, but laughed and said that it probaly wouldn't go down like that.

Anyhow I thought you might find all this interesting. Now if I had only thought to run over to the toy section and buy something with Vader on it for him to sign. Oh well, I got something that is even better than an autograph. I didn't run into Mark Hamill or Carrie Fisher or Harrison Ford or Anthony Daniels or even Dave Prowse. But you know what? I did run into someone who for years has been involved with making Star Wars adventures that I have enjoyed over and over again, and he took the time to stop and talk with me. How cool is that?

Oh, and thank you TF.N because you guys are the ones that posted the info on WonderCon back in February that let me know that Andrew Nelson (and Peter Mayhew) were going to be at that show. And that's the show he remembered meeting me at. Keep doing the great things you are doing. Love your site!"

Thanks Jarad for the kind words, but more importantly, for sharing your story with the rest of us fanboys. Always nice to hear when a SW celeb is down with the fans and we tend to hear this about C. Andres Nelson anywhere he goes.

Happy Birthday to Mr. Nelson as well!!!
