Heart of the Alliance, a group of Star Wars fans from Kansas City, is celebrating the United States Postal Service?s Star Wars-themed mail boxes by mailing donations to charity and thank you letters to Star Wars creator George Lucas.
On Monday, March 26 at 6:30 PM the group will gather at the mail box at 4620 JC Nichols Parkway near the Country Club Plaza, which is decorated to look like the robotic Star Wars character R2-D2, many of them dressed as Jedi, bounty hunters, and princesses. They will deposit their letters and take pictures with the unique item.
The R2 mail boxes are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the release of Star Wars. An announcement will be made on the website www.uspsjedimaster.com revealing the purpose of the special promotion.
Heart of the Alliance FanForce is a group of Star Wars fans who have come together to create a club that focuses on a common love of the Star Wars Universe. Members are from all over Kansas and Missouri, but the core membership is located in the Kansas City Metropolitan area, where most of its events are held. Main activities include movie viewings, gaming, costuming, and general social activities. They are part of a larger fan group called Fan Force, an unofficial fan organization that has groups all over the United States and in many other countries around the world. Fan Force is hosted by TheForce.Net.
Heart of the Alliance was founded in 2003 has currently has 23 dues-paying members and 162 users registered on its website, www.heartofthealliance.net. The group also participates in many conventions in the Kansas City and surrounding areas over the course of the year, holding raffles for various local charities.
