London's Official SW Charity Dinner & Quiz

Jay of Fireball, LLC sent word of a Star Wars Charity Dinner and Quiz that's coming to London in early 2012...

"The Official Star Wars Charity Dinner and Quiz is supporting MediCinema and will be held at The Hilton Park Lane Hotel, London, W1 on Thursday 2nd February 2012. The evening is supported by Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox and includes dinner, entertainment, celebrity & special guests and a unique interactive Quiz Wars. A selection of Star Wars loving celebrities will form the top table and guests will take them on to compete to win the title of MediCinema Star Wars Quiz champions. It will be a black tie dinner with a drinks reception followed by a three course dinner. There will be fundraising activities during the evening including a live auction and raffle. Monies from the evening's fundraising will be supporting MediCinema, a charity who installs state-of-the-art cinemas to improve the difficult reality of being in hospital for patients and families by bringing them genuine movie-going experiences. The Star Wars Charity Dinner website notes that honorary event patrons are scheduled to include Ewan McGregor, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

MediCinema will be holding The Official Star Wars Charity Dinner & Quiz at The Hilton Park Lane Hotel, London, W1 on Thursday 2nd February 2012 to support the release of Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace in 3D. All monies raised will be for the MediCinema charity which installs state-of-the-art cinemas to improve the difficult reality of being in hospital for patients and families by bringing them genuine movie-going experiences.

It will be a spectacular evening supported by Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox that includes dinner, entertainment, celebrity guests and a unique interactive Quiz Wars. A selection of Star Wars loving celebrities will form the top table and guests will take them on to compete to win the title of MediCinema Star Wars Quiz champions. It will be a black tie dinner with the option of adding Star Wars styling. An absolute must attend event for any Star Wars fan. Tickets are now on sale at www.starwarscharitydinner.com.

A high-calibre, influential Event committee has been put together to support the event from the world of film, the City and the dedicated supporters of the MediCinema charity. Ewan McGregor who starred as the young Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy between 1999 and 2005 is a patron of the MediCinema charity as well as one of the Event?s Honorary Patrons along with Nick Frost and Simon Pegg who are both long standing, avid Star Wars fans. Star Wars fan clubs and dedicated publications have been engaged to promote the event to try and make it as successful and prestigious as possible.

?We are enormously excited about the potential of this event being a great platform for the MediCinema charity and want to grow this into a signature, annual event. We hope to raise significant funds for the charity in 2012 and our aim is to build four new facilities during the year including Guy?s Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and Headley Court. The cult and history of Star Wars and its community provide a real opportunity for the world of film to have a positive, significant impact in the world of charity.? About MediCinema
MediCinema is a charity that was established 15 years ago to bring the joy and escapism of Cinema to patients in hospitals around the United Kingdom.

By creating the true cinema experience MediCinema enriches the lives of patients many of whom are critically ill and spending extensive periods of time in hospital. The therapeutic effects provided by this opportunity to enjoy a normal and uplifting social experience have proved remarkable. Witnessing MediCinema in action is truly extraordinary. To see the immediate positive effect a visit to one of their cinemas has on a sick child or an anxious patient is incredible. The cinemas are specifically designed and built within the hospital to comfortably accommodate wheelchairs and hospital beds, whilst maintaining a real and exciting cinema going experience.

MediCinema currently operates at The Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow; the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle; and St Thomas' in London. Over the next year new MediCinemas will open in Newport, Gwent, Guy's Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital both in London and at Headley Court, the rehabilitation centre for injured service men and women. The plan is to open several new cinemas each year targeting hospitals where there is the greatest need.

Although MediCinema works closely with the National Health Service, MediCinema neither seeks nor receives any funding from the NHS and relies totally on the support and generosity of the Film Industry and other corporate and individual donors.
