The Force Among Us Posted By Dustin on March 7, 2007
My good buddy Cris Macht has finally launched the website for his upcoming documentary The Force Among Us. Here's a snippet of how it all started.
"It all started years ago, this is not something that happened over night. This is something that started on my birthday on May 25th, 1977 and grew through out the years. Sure Star Wars was "asleep" in my life from 1985 - 1991, but then one Night in October 1991 on my way to bed, I ran into an old copy of the Empire Strikes Back on Beta and from that moment on, my life had changed for the better as the Star Wars rebirth Period for me had begun.
2005 was not only the year of the last Star Wars film to be released but it was the year I would celebrate with a bang. You only live once, right? I had went to my 3rd celebration and spent some time bonding with the family. I had seen the final Star Wars movie VIP red carpet Style in Los Angles and from there flew out to London, alone, for the Red Carpet event and had finally met George Lucas in person in the Lobby of the theater. Then from there I had flown to Tunisia for an on location tour of the sets that still remain.
Then on a cold night in March 2006 at an Irish Pub I was feeling depressed as all things Star Wars were now behind me. It was at this time that my sister and I looked at each other and said what can I possibly do next as a fan? She looked at me and said WE need to make a documentary, we need to make a TRUE story about the Star Wars fans.
It had originally started as a 10 minute fan film entry for the Atom Films Star Wars contest and was going to be called Confessions of a Star Wars fan. That idea then took on a life of its own and turned into a "monster". A full length, high budget, documentary that took 7 months to shoot and ended out in Finse, Norway.
We are not out to make another Star Wars fan film, we want to make something much more meaningful and important for the Star Wars fans. Something that will educate people and make them think. A film that includes all different types of Star Wars fans and destroys all the stereotypes associated with us. We have spent so much time and money on this hobby and wrapped our lives up in this Saga that has been going on for 30 years. The film express that passion. The Force Among Us is film made by the fans for the fan."
