a word from the director

[Rich Cando] A Word from Rich Cando
Director of "RETURN OF THE DUDE"

Once again I?m overwhelmed by the public response to the Star Dudes saga of films. In a way, creating the latest chapter of the series was a saga of its own.

Originally the film was titled Revenge of the Dude, but I decided that vengeance was not a particularly noble aspiration for a true "Dude" (at least in a PG movie) and the title was altered to Return of the Dude. Another possible title, Rectum of the Dude, was scrapped as well.

Satisfying audiences required the production team at Dude Studios to up the ante when it came to delivering a state-of-the-art feature. Topping previous efforts required 500 separate effects shots, 300 different costume designs, 150 models, and 2 kinds of burritos at the craft-services truck.

A bigger challenge was keeping script details and film images away from the inquiring minds of nosy fans and media. During location work in Yuma, Arizona, the production practiced a little of what is known in magician?s circles as misdirection, using as cover the title of a fictitious production, Dude Harvest ("Parody Beyond Imagination"). The crew could only laugh when a passerby on the sand dunes had no clue he was witness to filming of the next big blockbuster on TheForce.Net.

The security concerns were even extended to the Dude Studios offices, where the plot of the movie was not disclosed, so effects scenes were created without the artists knowing how their work fit into the entire film. But that?s a precaution I needed to take when hiring child labor.

To wrap up, creating Return of the Dude may have been a chore, but it was worth the effort. Many thanks to TheForce.Net and to you fans of the Star Dudes saga worldwide. Enjoy!
