In 1997, Kevin Rubio revolutionized fan participation in the Star Wars universe with the release of Troops, a video made with the love of fans and the look of pros. It captured the imagination of both the Internet, mainstream media and brought offers streaming in from top movie studios.

In 2000, FanFilms.com and TheForce.Net joined together to form TFN FanFilms. Since then, TFN FanFilms has become the place for fan filmmakers and their fans. In 2003, TFN FanFilms began to publish non-Star Wars fan films with Batman: Dead End.
