SPY REPORT: Oliver Twist

Posted By Joshua on August 23, 2001

Way back when we posted that the crew of Episode II stayed for an extra day when filming the pickup shots at Ealing back in April. As was announced on the Official Site and here in a previous spy report, Sio Bibble played again by Oliver Davies was added at the last minute into the film. You can even read a synopsis of a scene he is in (possibly the one below) here.

Today, our faithful intelligence droid O-2D7 bleeps and chirps his way through this report of more on the actor who barely made it in Episode II. Very minor spoilers, but for the super-sensitive, we'll cover them up:

There were several shots done on the Naboo location during filming of Episode II, in particular the last day of shooting. Oliver Ford Davies, who again reprises his role as Sio Bibble came in and they shot six quick parts of one big scene.

Sio Bibble was filmed in the Naboo Palace virtual set (read: bluescreen everywhere) first thing in the morning. They were going to add him to a wide shot for the first two parts of the scene, then shoot over the shoulder of the new Queen as she delivers dialogue to Sio. They filmed two more shots of Oliver again, where they will add him into existing footage, as well as one close up.

Great stuff - but my (Josh) question is simply this: what is the deal scrambling to add this character at the last minute? Was this to simply add continuity to the film, or is there a larger intent? Maybe another insider will chime in with the goods, feel free until then to toss it back and forth in the Jedicouncil forums.
