More New AOTC Footage Shown on Australian TV

Posted By Britany on April 21, 2002

Channel 9 showed more new AOTC footage at the end of The Empire Strikes Back. Here's yet another great report from Sampson:

Wellity, tonight's new footage from "Star Wars: Connections" was quite spectacular. Continuing the story of the Skywalker family, R2 accesses 'the bounty hunter file'.

The footage we were treated to was that of (highlight to read) Obi-Wan's battle with Jango Fett near the Cloning facility. C3PO describes Boba's beginnings as the son of Jango, and shows a shot over Obi-Wan's shoulder of Ewan talking to the kid.

Then it cuts to Obi-Wan bursting out of the doors to the cloning facility into the rain, and Boba yells 'Dad, look!!', and then it's the brief shot of Jango spinning around from the Clone War trailer, and Obi-Wan spinning and deflecting Jango's shots, also from the trailer.

Then there's more extra footage of Obi-Wan slicing at Jango who promptly takes off with his jetpack and firing at Obi-Wan, which is the shot you have that links to the Digital Theater section, and Jango flies out of Obi's reach. Boba, meanwhile, has climbed into the cockpit of Slave I, and begins firing its massive laser cannons at Obi-Wan, whilst Jango clings to the pole he is seen flying behind in the Breathing trailer, and fires the warhead from his backpack at Obi-Wan, who is blown backwards by a wall of flame and drops his saber into the rain. (end of possible spoiler)

Apart from another shot of Obi-Wan leaving Temura Morrison after the 'They'll do their job well' and a brief rundown of the plot of ANH, ESAB and ROTJ, that was pretty much the summation of the Connections for this evening.

It again gives me great hope for this movie, as Obi-Wan's saber style is evan classier and more skilful than it was in Episode I, and it shows his evolution as a Jedi. Equally skilful looks Jango, especially in (highlight to read) manipulating his blasters and Jetpack in unison (end of possible spoiler) and, surprisingly, Boba seems (highlight to read) quite the resourceful little boy also when it comes to using Slave I, (end of possible spoiler) and seems to lack the irritating quality of Jake Lloyd from Episode I.

C3PO asked R2 for 'a less stressful file next time' ('You don't want to stress my circuits, do you?'), and I'm hoping for a focus on Anakin or Padme, as I can't see how any description of the Skywalker family would be complete without it.

Thanks to everyone who sent in alerts, and Embryo, Taan Ronar & Jase who were the first to write in. If anyone has the footage, drop us a line.

Update:
KrasHHH adds:

(highlight to read) In the scene where it showed Obi Wan nearly avoiding a hit from the Slave I lasers and falling to the ground momentarily injured. (end of possible spoiler) I remember this scene from an early Episode 2 select picture shown on the Official Site (click here).
