1/26/98 - END SCENE NEWS
One of our reliable sources has it that at the end of Episode 1, there will be a trophy scene in somewhat similar fashion to ANH. The scene takes place on the steps of the palace on Naboo. Anakin appears in this scene, and in it, he wears clothing exactly like that of Kenobi.

12/31/97 - Remember the "ships" the Bothan Spy told us about below? Well, he had some comments on them:

"Also, a message to the Virtual Edition. Firstly, I love what you're doing - although a lot of it isn't quite right. For example, my photo you used of the strange gray crafts which you are calling voting booths. These are ships! Look at my shot from inside the cockpit. Notice the device to the right under the screen? That's the 'steering wheel'. You put your palm on the larger part, and your fingertips on five smaller circles JUST VISIBLE on it's surface (you should be able to see them). You can then move the device around to control the ship. (Yes - I had a go.) The gray background is some kind of launcher for the ships. TheForce.Net - can you put a request out asking my fellow spies what it is?"

We've had some reports saying they are Senate Voting Booths or something. We'll continue to check.

11/18/97 - Well, the Bothan Spy reported in to us. Yup, apparently the same one that has been reporting to Ain't It Cool News. Here's his report:

Firstly, regarding what Mr Lucas said about Ben's comments in Episode IV that "your father was already a great pilot when I met him", Anakin flies one of the yellow ships in Episode I! That's the fact, but the details are more interesting. Picture the scene:

Qui Gonn, Anakin, Obi Wan, Queen Padme, Captain Panaka, 4xR2 units, 10 pilots and 40 footsoldiers burst through the hanger doors into the hanger (as seen in the photos). Facing them are many, many Gungans - tall, white robots with backpacks on and very scary 'Predator'-style head-attachments. Like dreadlocks, but white, plastic and hanging behind their heads like tentacles.

There are also "Destroyer Droids", which 'roll' into the hanger. They then open out, rather like an earwig, into a mean, black, triped robot with guns for hands.

Queen Padme's line is "Pilots - to your ships!!". (Hang on, this is the Star Wars Script! Lucky people.) That is the only line from her. Then Ben and Qui-Gonn start to slice the Gungans with their lightsabres, whilst the footsoldiers give the pilots cover-fire. The R2 units are very confused, and keep bumping into the soldiers and pilots. It's 'classic Star Wars'. Anakin and Bravo 5 (the actress Celia Imrie) run towards 2 of the yellow ships. Bravo 5 jumps into hers, and Anakin (never having flown a ship before), takes cover in another empty one. Bravo 5 has a line here, which is basically telling Anakin not to touch anything but to get in.

Slightly later, when the pilots are in their ships, and most of the Gungans have been killed, Qui Gonn and Ben walk past Anakin's ship. Anakin asks if he can come down, but Qui Gonn in a very fatherly (take note!) tone orders him to "Stay in the ship, you're safe in there!" (more script!!).

Anakin then has some dialogue with R2 (the blue droid in his ship). "R2, do something... what can we do... ahh... cool!... wizard!... good idea, guns...". (In my opinion the lines "cool!... wizard!" sound too American and should be removed - but that's the way Mr Lucas wanted it!) At this point, Anakins ship kills some more Gungans! He then flies out of the hanger, and wins the sky battle for the Naboo. When he lands, he remarks, "I'm not gonna get into trouble... am I?" and everyone laughs, and then applauds him. That's straight from the script. My fellow spies will confirm it.

So... Anakin was already a great pilot when Ben met him. (With a little help from Artoo!)

Finally, you'll find attached a photo of a strange craft taken at Leavesden. One photo is taken from inside the cockpit, the other from outside showing 2 crafts. I believe it is the same craft the model-maker was working on in the new photo on the Star Wars site.

9/19/97 - We've been able to confirm several things from the Tunisia shoot:

- The space craft frame and ramp seen in those French Premiere pics is called the 'Naboo Spacecraft'. Is Naboo a planet, name of a people, a ship model? Don't know.
- Darth Maul rides a speeder bike in the Tatooine scenes.
- Some of the sets in Tunisia are part of a city called Mos Espa. In that city are located Slave Quarters, a place called 'Watto's Junk Shop', 'Sebulba's cafe', and the starting Grid for the pod race. There also seems to be an arena where the pod race begins.
- There is an alien cantina band in Mos Espa

9/17/97 - Today one of our sources confirmed what we've been hearing behind the scenes for a while - in the new movie, C-3PO is going to have a transparent exterior! You will be able to see through his outer shell and peek at his inner workings moving inside. Apparently they have a complicated robot puppet that will be used with some CGI. Word is they have nick-named it 'See Through See Threepio' as a joke. Anyway, Anthony Daniels will only be doing the voice of 3PO and not the actions of the character.

9/14/97 - Here's a report from Harry Knowles' spy. He tells us that there is an underwater battle in Episode 1. :

"As for the underwater sequence, it features the Gungans. The Gungans are mostly robots, which look like white Terminators with a mouse shaped head! They're pretty evil looking!! They have crafts called Gunga Submarines, which are heart-shaped (looking from above), seat 3 in the cockpit, and have propellars like ornately decorated egg-whisks! Unfortunately I have no pictures to show you, but what I've seen is REALLY cool. Plus, all the Gunga craft and sets look like something out of Alien. They're very 'organic' looking." "The underwater sequences are being done in CGI."

The spy also says that there is a pod race between Anakin and some of his buddies. Here's Harry's report:

You see, at the beginning of the film on Tatooine, Anakin and some others have a 'Pod Race'! (This has been confirmed to me by another source independent of this one) The above picture is Anakin's Pod, and the bit on the right is the BACK - the bit on the left is the FRONT! Yes, I know it looks backwards, but it's the truth according to the "Imperial Droid". The back of his head touches the raised 'windscreen' looking bit, and he faces towards to two fins at the left of the picture. This pod also has weird 'arms' sticking out at the front and is essentially the space equivelant of a go-cart. We all know that Lucas loves his converted cars, and these are the same sort of things but for young kids such as little Anakin!

Here's the spy's follow up:

"Yes - the pod race is like Ben Hur. It's just a bit of fun, and takes place in Mos Espa. This is another spaceport similar to Mos Eisley. Here we meet 'Watto', a character who owns a shop and has a private 'box' on Mos Espa in the 'arena'!! I believe the pod race takes place in the Mos Espa arena."

And finally, there is a report on a creature called 'Jar Jar' and some character news:

Jar Jar is allegedly a central character who looks like a lizard. He's quite funky, and befriends OB1 in a swamp on another planet under circumstances still unknown. This swamp sequence was filmed 2 weeks ago at Whippendell Woods near Leavesden. There was, however, no swamp in the woods. The "Imperial Droid" believes it will be put in later! Shock!! During this swamp sequence, OB1 discovers a submerged temple which looks like an Indian woman's face. I.e. the temple is shaped like a person. He then escapes with the others from something that I honestly don't know the circumstances of. This is all very odd sounding. As for Liam Neeson's character - he is called Qui-Gon Jinn, is Anakin's father, which is a direct contradiction with the story from yesterday. I do not know who is right. The guy with the two-ended lightsabre (known as a "laser-light") is in fact called "Darth Maul" according to the "Imperial Droid. Now for the information I really hope is false: Natalie Portman is Queen Padme of the Naboo. The Naboo are the people of Coruscant, and she lives in the palace. NabooNabooooo Nabooooooooooooooo Nabbbbbooooooooooooooo!!! hahahahahahahaahahahahahahahaa. God, make it stop. hahahahahahahahahahaha. And as for C3PO - well, according to the "Imperial Droid" Anakin builds C3PO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The spy goes on to say that Qui-Gon (daddy) aka (Liam Neeson if you believe this spy) buys two droids off Jawas (sound familiar?). One is R2, and the other one is 3PO, but not as we know him! Oh no. There's a twist. He's just a lump of wires. That's what the "Imperial Droid" claims Lucas meant by "an earlier form of C3PO". He has no gold bits, no arms and just one leg. Anakin 'repairs' him, showing his great talent, and thus we have 3PO. And lastly, the Imperial Droid claims that Samuel L Jackson plays a Jedi Knight.

That's all for now.

8/26/97 - Jean-Pierre Aubagnac got the rest of the French Premiere article and translated it for us. The interesting thing to note is that the journalist snuck into the set! Ooooo! Somebody's in trouble!! Anyway, Jean Pierre alternates between quoting the article and describing it. Here goes:

I bought the spetember issue of Premiere on my way out of work yesterday. The article is actually rather well written as Martin said. The writer - Franck Priot - appears to be a free lance journalist who embarks on a trip to Tunisia in the hope of finding the shooting scene for SW, after Lucas's conference in Caserta, Italy. He goes through several sites which were used in 76 as Tatooine's exteriors: the Owen & Beru farm (the Sidi-Driss hotel in Matmata, tunisia), the Mos Eisley cantina (village oven in Agim, Djerba island), ... Eventually he heads for Tozeur, oasis lost in the middle of the Tunisian Sahara desert, which provided dune and canyons sets for SW in 1976. The city is a huge oasis town with an airport. It owes its name and brick wall architecture to a yemenite princess. In Tozeur, people quickly mention that a film is being shot further down on the desert road, in a place called Anguejmal - the neck of the camel in arabic -.

" A huge metallic structure comes into sight behind a dune. Closer up, I can make out a base with tents, half trailer lorries and a huge antenna. Still a couple of minutes to get there. I enter the camp without slowing down, and find myself in the middle of half constructed sets. I park close to rental cars identical to mine. Two R2D2 droids are waiting in the back of a truck..."

" The camp is huge: roughly speaking, a hundred people and fifty vehicles. I cross the camp over and over, always walking straight ahead of me, with the look of the very busy guy: it works ! In front of he antenna, with its back to the trucks and construction site barracks, lays the catering. Facing it, a tennins court size tent for costumes and make up, with a small and somehow derisory table for a sewing machine."

"There is also a tribune, about 10 meter high, a set which will probably be completed by the computer. In front of trucks arrived from the UK, technicians are busy around highly streamlined speeders, new to the SW universe. Next is the set of a village main square, in a very tatooinish fashion: berber style hut houses mixed to heteroclite metallic elements, giving the "everything is recycled here" impression. A red speeder ressembling luke's lays in a corner. Englishmen go by, carrying pieces of the set. The whole village came from the Leavesden studios as a kit, for reassembling on location. It is almost complete. Tunisians armed with brushes add the last touches to details."

However, no camera around this set. The journalist has to reach the other set: the access ramp to the spaceship. There is the shooting action. He blends in the group of technicians, helping to move the blue parasols for instance. The team is too concentrated to notice the guy in a T shirt and surf boxers working with them in the middle of the desert. The journalist only has a wide angle lens on his camera: it is not always appropriate.

Insert here the parts about Neeson's scene. Martin's excerpts cover most of it. One more detail: the journalist links the single take decision to Lucas new idea on film making, in which shooting and editing are interlaced, allowing the director to visualize the final product (minus the special effects), decide to go back to shooting, then editing, etc.

Sorry, I do not have a scanner. Your scans are already pretty good. The duel pic for instance is blurry in Premiere. There is a web site for the magazine, at www.premiere.fr. You'll find a scan of the cover there, with Nicolas Cage as the devil in a cage. The star wars part is the first title found at the left of Cage's face. However, no mention of the article on the site. Don't forget the whole story and pics were "stolen" by an intruder on location.

8/25/97 - Here's a color picture of the speeder picture from the French Premiere Magazine. I don't know who it originated from, but we got it from Ain't It Cool News.

Notice the cool ship that looks like a pick-up truck in the background! Wow! :)

8/25/97 - Thanks to Martin Laverdure , Jean-Pierre Aubagnac, and Roderick Vonhogen, we have translations of some of the more interesting parts of the French Premiere Prequel Article!

This part talks about Liam Neeson's scene:

The huge Jedi moves back one step, turns to the child [lying] in the sand behind him and yells: "Anakin, go back to the ship !". Then he parries the light saber stroke of the black warrior with the flame red face, and resumes duelling with him... Liam Neeson's sword - as Liam Neeson IS the Jedi - is truly a green plastic tube. That of the desert warrior is orange. The Sahara desert extends as far as the eye can see, temperature is above 50 degrees Celsius, and the closest oasis is 30 kilometers away. George Lucas and his team are shooting the new trilogy in the Star Wars saga !

It then talks about the ship:

I hop into the car and drive to the huge scaffolding standing like a mirage on the top of a dune. Tubulatures support the entrance to a space ship, with a tilted ramp extending down to the ground. Here too, it is clear that the rest of the set is still in ILM's computers.

It then talks about the actors in Tunisia:

Further down, a series of small brown tents for the actors. Their names are written on the tents: Natalie Portman, Jake Lloyd, Ray Park and others, but no Ewan Mcgregor to be found !

More on Liam Neeson:

Liam Neeson plays the part of a Jedi knight. The proud and martial appearance given by his high leather boots and rough cloth tunic is tempered by his sun glasses: square, yellow and gaudy, they are holding on his nose with a band-aid... In this sequence, he turns to warn Anakin !

More on the Neeson Scene:

After two takes, the team moves on to the next sequence, which promises to be more complex. The travelling rail has to be moved, and a rock swept: this rock will be used in the duel scene as a visual reference to follow the moves of the two fighters. The stunt men rehearse the fight: three fencing passes, the Jedi steps back, takes his guard, pauses, three more saber strobes... Lucas quietly explains what he wants: the "reference shot" of a fixed camera standing in the axis of the warriors displacements, as well as another camera, on the travelling rail, following the scene laterally. First take: Liam Neeson and his black dressed oponant are apparently well trained. They go about every sequence in the fight with pace and speed. One drawback: the black warrior's plastic tube gets caught in his robe for a second. "Cut !". George Lucas leaves the video monitors under the parasol and joins the actors: "Perfect, it is the good take he says, next !" He does only one take. While shooting the most anticipated movie in the history of cinema, while wall street observes the multinational bids on who will get the license for manufacturing toys after his creations, he only does a single take for a 20 second fight scene. And nobody seems amazed around him...

Finally, the end of the article:

Today, the young movie director is as serene as a bonze. The movie clap gives the name of the director: Yoda ! So much like him. George walks slowly among the team. Behind him, the sand is white with salt: it rained yesterday over Tozeur. This happens every 20 years, like visits from Star Wars. George stops and says: "Sand, sun, storm: just as if we were on the shooting of Star Wars !" The team smiles, nobody has a clue what he is talking about. No surprise, as none participated in the original trilogy, from which only Lucas embodies the tradition. He returns to his monitors, slowly, as the air vibrates with heat. Yoda is alone in the middle of the desert.

That's it! We also want to thanks the following people who offered a hand in the translations: Keith Abbott, Bas-Jan Walewijk, Joseph, Lee Weinberg, Mike Bastarache, Buddy Harville, Jane & Chris Prosser, David Vaillancourt, Miami Joe, pliades, Garrett, and Mathieu Vallier

8/25/97 - Here's a report from the Ain't It Cool News Spy Beyonder:

The Beyonder has contacted me again saying that the prequel-Slave1 Pretaltype sketch that it/she/he did, actually should look more like a cross between Slave 1 and a HIND helicopter gunship. But since I have no idea what a HIND helicopter gunship looks like, that doesn't help me much at all. (NOTE: If you want to see a Hind Helicopter, click Here!, Thanks to Tristan Pruss for pointing it out.)

Remember way back when I told yall about the "Lightstaff"? And dozens of you sent in scans of covers of Dark Horse comics? Well THe Beyonder, who sees all, says it will be a red double ended lightsabre (like in Shadows of the Empire) used by a little guy (5ft 4 ish) who has a black face with little horns all over it. Also the blaster rifles are based on the ones we know (Sten machine gun) with bits added to make it look like older technology.

Lightsabres have only slightly different designs. Which makes sense, it was an ancient weapon right?

Grans will be in it, not little old ladies though! Ree Yees type of Gran's. I really don't know what this means. Is this in reference to "Gran" Moff Tarkin types? (NOTE - These were the goat faced cretures in ROTJ with three eyes.)

There are nasty machines called Imperial Attack Droids, they are virtually identical to Phase1 Dark Troopers from the Dark Forces game. I hated those things, they killed me more than once.

8/24/97 - More reports filter out of the French Premiere Magazine. This picture shows a Tatooine town, possibly Mos Eisley, with a red speeder nearby. The picture comes from Pliade's Episode 1 Site.

Also, our friend TINMAN (Paul Davidson) created the duel picture with the lightsaber's drawn in. Great work, Tinman!

8/23/97 - Mister W (who also contacted Dark Horizon's) sent us some interesting pics! Here's his description:

"I'm Mister W (I'm french and I'm sorry for my english) and I send you pics from STAR WARS in Tunesia! A french journalist (from PREMIERE in french edition) has working on the set. I think you'll love it."

Now did you guys go read the rough draft of Star Wars? NO!?! Durn it! We told you to! In that first draft at the very beginning, Anakin's father and Anakin are on a desert planet and go to face a Dark Jedi in a duel. Look kind of similar? Yeah, we thought so too. Anyway, thanks to Jay Majer for reminding us of this.

Just for your reading plaesure, here's the section of the script we are referring to. It is from the rough draft of Star Wars written in May of 1974:

" With the aid of the electrobinoculars, Deak watches the running lights of the starship flash on and off. Suddenly, something huge moves in front of his field of view. Before either of the two young boys can react, a large, sinister SITH warrior in black robes and a face mask looms over them. He carries a long lazer- sword which cuts young Deak down before he or his brother are able to raise their weapons. The startled Annikin backs away in horror, then settles down and ignites his lazersword, which creates an eerie red glow. He stumbles over rocks as he attempts to avoid the charging SITH knight. The evil warrior swings his mighty lazersword, but Annikin manages to deflect the intended death- blow.

Finally, Annikin is able to assume a defensive stance, and the two warriors stand, sizing up each other. The black knight is at least seven feet tall, and dwarfs the young JEDI. They stand for a few moments, almost frozen, then in a flurry of blows, lazerswords clash with the sound of electric snapping and popping. Annikin is barely able to hold his own against the experienced knight. Many blows are exchanged before the SITH warrior is able to back Annikin up against a deep crevasse. Annikin stumbles and almost falls over the cliff to his death.

The black knight suddenly senses something behind him and whirls around to face Annikin's father, Kane Starkiller, a Jedi Bendu master. The Sith warrior raises his lazersword, but is cut in two before he can bring it down again. Kane moves to the fallen black knight, and studies him carefully. Annikin, still a little wobbly from the whole experience, attempts to stand. Kane sees his dead son Deak, and goes to him. He lifts him into his arms and begins to weep. Annikin stands bewildered, watching his father cradle his dead brother.

That's it. But just wondering, could Liam Neeson be playing Anakin Skywalker's father? Hmmmm.

7/29/97 - The mysterious Mode returns. In light of questions about the 'Sith Lords', we asked him to tell us more about this. Are they really Sith Lords? Here's his reply:

"I called them Sith lords because I just assumed that all characters in a Vader-like costume were Sith Lords. Think of the characters as "Master Samurai". What you were saying is true, that when a jedi reaches a certain level, he/SHE gets to wear the cool uniform. From what I have been told, the uniform is kind of like a jedi's supreme court robe. I was a little hasty in applying MY term to these judges. They have been called "The Council." I have another tasty bit of info for you all: One of the most powerful Jedi among the Council is a WOMAN!! I don't know her name, but she wears one of the Vader costumes."

Hmmm, interesting! Verrry Interesting! So, Vader's costume is not necessarily a Sith Lord costume! More from Mode later on.

7/24/97 - A new source of info has surfaced named 'Mode'! We've checked Mode out and they seem to be legit. Even if they aren't (but we think they are), this seems like some interesting stuff:

"The designers at ILM have been working on final designs for MANY DIFFERENT Dark Sith Lords. Apparently the recurring theme is that of the Darth Vader-style helmet. They all seem to have the same curved helmet with different masks and space-suits/uniforms. There are 12 different designs for 12 distinctly different characters. These 12 sith lords might possibly correspond to the rumour about the 12 Yodas. From what my source has been able to tell, these 12 sith lords are kind of the guardians of the force. The "Supreme Court" of the Jedi, if you will. They act as a panel that regulates the Jedi and punishes dark Jedi. These Sith Lord costumes are merely uniforms; not mechanical prosthetics as in Vader's case."

Hmmmmm. We thought that the Sith Lords were Dark Jedi who were a weird offshoot of the Jedi. Why would they be judges of the Jedi Knights? Still, it would make sense that Vader would be allowed to hunt the Jedi down if he were their judge, right? Is what we thought wrong or is the info warped? We will soon find out! Also, remember when we reported that they were making a LOT of Vader and Mandalorian costumes? Do these bits of info jive?

7/23/97 - More from Mazinga:

This report of his comes from a respected Italian Newspaper:

-Do you remember the 100 women? Well, yesterday they were dressed in yellow, green and purple colours and their haircut was similar to ancient roman ladies one.
-Lucas will place Imperial Guards alongside the staircase, where the Emperor's coronation will take place. Their costumes are red and the extras chosen to play the guards are very slim in order to fit the costumes.

7/22/97 - More from Mazinga!

"And now hold your breath: the newspaper says that Lucas will film the coronation of the Emperor inside the Caserta Palace, near the staircase. The two marble lions at the end of the satircase will be digitally replaced by two Dragons, which are the symbol of Coruscant. Lucasfilm crew has occupied 4 hotels in Caserta and in the park of the Reggia there is a giagantic truck. Besides the article says that the name of the Queen is THENNA and that Lucas can film a lightsaber duel near the Vesuvio, which is the famous Volcano in Naples, a perfect site for the duel between Anakin and Ben. Now I don't know if everything is true, by the way "La Rapubblica" is the equivalent of the "New York Times in America" so it is quiet reliable. Stay tuned because in the next days I think a lot will happen in Italy."

7/8/97 - This is a bit old, and comes from Harry's site, but it keeps popping up, so we figured it was worth a mention:

"At the beginning of the film, the galaxy is at peace. Coruscant is a virtual Utopia. Then something is... orchestrated... to break that peace, and the galaxy is suddenly plunged into conflict. The diabolical scheme has been hatched to deliberately break the Jedi ranks, divide them, to make them easier to take out. Meanwhile, Anakin Skywalker's family are settling on Tatooine at a time when there's a great expansion out of the known galaxy. New world's are being settled the whole time, and Jedi are being sent along as sort of "escorts". They haven't been on the planet long when Tatooine's indiginous life takes a dislike to the settlers, and there's a battle. It's during this initial conflict, which involves settlers, Sandpeople, and a pair of Jedi (Neeson and McGregor), that young Anakin endears himself to Kenobi, and the pair form a bond."

LIAM NEESON'S CHARACTER

4/3/97 - Harry Knowles says that his sources know who Liam Neeson's character is. They are saying it is a guy tentatively called 'BOSH'. Bosh is apparently the 'good version' of Vader who leads the Jedi Knights. Apparently he is a student of Yoda (Yoda has retired from fighting). (Kind of a reverse of the Vader/Palpatine relationship). Go to Harry's site to learn more.

PRODUCTION SKETCHES?"

This comes directly from Harry Knowles Ain't It Cool News

"Well, yet another source is coming out. Hmmm, is it yet another leak, or is it a false lead constructed by Lucasfilm?

"As head geek I have to say that at the very least this is semi coolness which would go hand in hand with alot of info that has come before.

"This news comes by way of the beautiful Ruby Keeler, who let loose with what she saw while tap dancing around ILM. You know they have alot of that. She claims to have laid eyes upon 4 storyboards/sketches. What did the radiant Ruby see? Well here are her descriptions.

"The first one contained a number of new ships, one of them being the one on your page. (see images above) All the ships had no wings, unusual cockpits, and big engines either on the side or bottom of the aircraft. The ships weren't gray like in the movies now, but a darker gray (borderline light black). There was also a sketch of a train-like ship - it was really long and had a lot of lights on it. One of the ships had a big gun that was really noticeable at the top of the ship. There was also a hovercraft like boat with escape pods that was sort of roughly sketched out.

The second picture was a little more detailed and had a picture of what looked sort of like the Millenium Falcon (or a ship like it) and some guy with a goatee and fur vest standing in front of it holding a small gun. (edited as to not increminate the gorgeous Ruby Keeler)

The third picture was really cool. It was this really huge battle on this marshy land. There were ships in the sky shooting down below at everybody fighting. On the land there were normal people, Chewbaccas, Jedis, and a bunch of different colered Boba Fetts. Also, you know that pink alien in Jabba's place with three eyes sticking out of its face. Well, an alien like that but with a big black spot on his face was holding a yellow lifesaver and chopping off the arm of this one red Boba Fett in the background. It looked awesome. At the top of the paper someone had written in nice writing "Concord 3".

The fourth picture was just this big city that was all fancy and had a long and skinny ship with a big circular engine with blue fire coming from it flying in the air. On the ground there was these two girls and a black guy just walking around. Anyway, this is pretty much all I saw. I asked Dick Powell (name changed to protect the guilty) if he knew anything else and he said that he heard George Lucas had already signed this junior high girl to play some queen."

Well, that's Harry's report. What do we think? Well, the little bit about Concord 3 jives with another report we heard about a planet called Concord Dawn. Don't know if it is true, though. The part about the multi-colered Mandalorians goes with what we heard from our own sources, so it might be true. However, this person called a lightsaber a 'lifesaver'. Ugh. You'd think someone would know better if they were on the inside.

YOUNG HAN SOLO

Harry Knowles also reported recently that in Episode 3, we'd see young Han Solo save Chewie and some Wookiees from Boba Fett, thus starting their friendship.

Our opinion? Definitely possible. Ann C. Crispin is writing the Young Han Solo series that is about to come out. She requested to do the story of Han and Chewie getting together. Lucasfilm said, Nope! Can't do it? You see, Lucasfilm only cancels the projects of the book writers if they are out of character or if George plans to do it in film. They did the same when Marvel Comics wanted to do a story about a second Death Star right before ROTJ. Now you getting the picture! A ha!

C-3PO's MYSTERIOUS FORM

The above pic is from ART OF A NEW HOPE. It is a concept drawing for C-3PO.

It is a well known fact that C-3PO and R2-D2 will be seen in different forms in the prequels. A recent rumor on the subject has arisen from a reliable source. He told us that a rumor is going around Lucasfilm that C-3PO's other form will be that of a female-formed nanny droid. (!)

What do we think about this rumor? We could go either way, but consider this. Suppose 3-PO is the nanny of the Young Queen, Luke and Leia's mother. Suppose the droid follows her through her adventures. Then, after she marries Anakin, he turns to Vader, then she must hide the twins. Vader would know what the nanny droid looked like. So, in order to hide their identity, they change the form of the droid to a male-formed protocol droid that looks after Leia. Also consider that 3-PO was modeled after the female robot in Metropolis. I don't know if this is true or not, but it is definitely a possibility for the storyline. It could just be a take on 'DOT MATRIX' from Spaceballs! :)

BOBA FETT'S REAL IDENTITY

The above pics are from ART OF EMPIRE STRIKES BACK - They are Fett Concept Drawings.

Yet another rumor from Harry Knowles. This one states that in the first film, we will meet a young, Han Solo like character that flies...yes, the MILLENIUM FALCON. As the film goes on, this likeable character takes a turn for the worst and becomes an enemy of the Jedi. In Chapter 2 he becomes a Mandalorian Warrior. He then dons the armor of Boba Fett!

What do we think about this rumor? Definitely possible. Hard to forsee at this time! However, this jives with the news we heard that it is not known whether tha Mandalores will be good or bad in the film. Hmmm, the rumor states that Fett is a good guy gone bad, thus the uncertainty. Also, we know that Darth Vader has some sort of history with this character. At the same time, Lucas made it known that he never had a love for Fett on the MTV Special. Like I said, hard to tell on this one!

FETT'S ORIGIN - PART II

Here's more information from a buddy of ours (who also happens to be one of Harry Knowles Geek Informants). A lot of it jives with what we've heard so far. First off, Boba Fett will be in the prequels, but not near as much as has been reported so far. Apparently, he's a minor character, but his family was a part of a warrior race known as the Mandalores. They were exterminated by the Jedi because of their evil deeds. Fett apparently grew up in the Empire, then helps them to hunt down the Jedi out of revenge. He wears the armor of the Mandalores as honor to them. That's about it!
