An interesting observation from this latest diary is the appearance of Ahmed Best
in a Jar Jar costume. You'll remember McCallum talking about how Best would act
with the other actors during rehearsal and then shout his lines from behind the
camera during actual shooting. Well, it look like he was in a headless costume
as he worked. Cool. (Thanks to Steven Hollman and Ronnie for the heads up.)
9/15/97 - We have received extremely convincing proof that rumors of Best's Character's name is true. His name is apparently Jar Jar. (Yes, it sounds stupid to us, too.) More details later.
8/16/97 - This comes from Bradford Jensen:
"I also noticed that Best is part of Stomp. A few months back I heard a rumor that Lucas was looking for someone in Stomp to develop some type of martial art. This was a long time ago, when their weren't even any casting rumors, let alone official news. Very interesting. This is pure speculation, but the Stomp people often have staffs when dancing. Perhaps those jedi that carry those light lances will use some kind of martial art as well (assuming that we see the lances and the rumor was true)."
This does indeed sound like a possibility. I was wondering why the heck they would have a performer from STOMP in Star Wars. Was he going to play drums on R2's head? This speculation about weapons/martial arts does sound like a possibility, but it is just that. Speculation. So don't go posting it as fact!!
8/14/97 - The Star Wars Galaxy Magazine (#12) reports that Ahmed Best is a member of the Broadway show STOMP! They are a very cool and unique musical show!
