Poland To Host Dagobah 2007, August 3-5

Posted By Mike on August 18, 2007

You might remeber Gerald Home from Return of the Jedi as Tessek and as a Mon Calamari officer. Well he was gracious enough to write to TheForce.net to let us know of an event he will be attending in Poland. See below:

"There's a convention coming up in Poland, August 3-5, called Dagobah 2007. They'll have their first ever Star Wars actor guest......and that guest will be - me!

I can't quite believe it, but they assure me it's true: I'll be the FIRST EVER Star Wars actor to appear at a convention in Poland. Quite an honour.

The theme of the convention, roughly translated, is BE LIKE LORD VADER. This refers to my co-guest, a little boy called Wojtek who is suffering terribly with cystic fibrosis. He's a huge Star Wars fan and gets inspiration from the way Darth Vader is able to cope with his physical problems.

The convention will be the biggest Star Wars event ever in Poland and will have the Polish Outpost in attendance, as well as members from the German Garrison - Berlin is just an hour's drive away.

It will also raise some much-needed funds to help Wojtek with his treatment.

UPDATE: Friend of TFN, Lukasz M. from Imperial City Online, sent us this update from Dagobah 2007 complete with pics.

"This year's edition of the Dagobah convention has become, beyond doubt, the most unique Star Wars event in Poland to date. For three days, fans from all over the country participated in various activities, discussions and lectures prepared by the organizers. But what truly made Dagobah 2007 so memorable, was the appearance of some very special guests - actors Gerald Home and Paul Blake agreed to visit us and make young Wojtek's dream come true.

"We were indeed fortunate to meet people with such a big heart and a great sense of humour, whose charisma (the Force) will stay with us for years to come" - said Cezary "Sizar" Zolynski, main organiser of the event and CO of the 501st Legion Polish Outpost.

"Dear friends, Gerald and Paul, thanks to you our dreamer, Wojtek, could forget about his illness and became a happy little man. We are truly grateful for your help; it makes us feel unique to know that we have such special friends" - he added.

Gerald Home and Paul Blake were the first actors ever to visit a Polish Star Wars convention. They also paid a short visit to the Obi-Wan Kenobi's Street in Grabowiec, near Torun."

Thanks to Lukasz for his report!

UPDATE #2: If you'd like to see a bit more from Dagobah 2007, you can click here for more coverage at Imperial City Online. The writing is in Polish but there are some more great pics from the event as well.

Thanks again to Lukasz for the link and info.
