Summary

At Sullust, the Falcon, Home One, Headquarters Frigate, and others jump to lightspeed and Lando assures his Sullustan copilot, Nien Nunb, that Han will get the shield down. On Sanctuary Moon, Wicket diverts troops by stealing a speeder bike. As they chase him, Han storms the bunker and plants charges. Aboard the Death Star, Palpatine goads Luke into using his hate by saying the Rebels have fallen for a trap. As they arrive, sensors jammed, Lando senses the trap and halts the attack. TIE Fighters and Interceptors engage them, but Executor and the Star Destroyers hold back. A beam destroys the Liberty and Ackbar realizes the station is operational, but Lando begs him to give Han more time. Meanwhile, Han's group is caught. Palpatine continues taunting Luke, who finally reaches for his 'saber, but Vader deflects his blade and a duel ensues. On the moon, the droids lure troops into the woods, where Ewoks attack from all sides. A battle rages, and the Rebels head back to the bunker. As Luke and Vader duel, the Emperor fuels Luke's anger, but he refuses to turn to the Dark Side. However, when Vader reads his thoughts and threatens to turn Leia instead, Luke redoubles his attack. The Ewoks and Rebels begin to win the ground-fight, but R2 and Leia are shot trying to open the bunker. Suddenly, an AT-ST looms before them. As the space-battle nears a Rebel defeat, Luke backs Vader into a corner, severing his hand. Delighted, Palpatine tells him to kill Vader and take his place, but Luke, seeing his own hand, refuses, so Palpatine hurls deadly electricity at him. Vader crawls to his feet, torn between son and master, finally throwing Palpatine into the reactor to die and pelted by the energy. Luke saves Vader from falling, then holds his dying father in his arms. Chewie, Wicket, and Paploo are inside the AT-ST, so Han uses its comlink to call for back-up. As the door opens, Rebels round up the troops, set charges, and destroy the bunker. The shield drops, and Wedge, Lando, and the X-Wings enter the station's superstructure, destroy the main reactor, and race to safety as it explodes. Luke drags Vader to a Lambda-class shuttle, but Vader is dying and has Luke remove his mask to view him with human eyes before dying. Luke, Wedge, and Lando escape the station as it blows, and a victory celebration is held that night in Bright Tree Village by the Ewoks and Rebels. Luke and his friends are reunited, and even R2 and Teebo now get along. Luke stands alone for a moment, seeing what no others can see, then is drawn back into his circle of friends.
