Marvel Star Wars #52
TO TAKE THE TARKIN
Published: October 1981
Story: DAVID MICHELINIE
Art: WALTER SIMONSON and THOMAS PALMER
Summary

Luke's team questions their ability to take the Tarkin as Star Destroyers circle in escort. Two troopers halt them on K-Level and find Luke's grenade, but Leia shoots them and they separate. On the bridge, Colonel Nord reports this to Vader, who plans to catch Luke himself. Nord then joins Biel's conspirators. On Hockaleg, Lando climbs from the Falcon 's smuggling bin, having stowed away to prove himself, but troops find the ship. At a power trench on the Tarkin , Berl and two other troopers guard the tractor beam generator. R2 and 3PO pose as repair droids to sabotage it. Suspicious, Berl pulls a blaster, so Chewie hurls him at the generator, destroying it. Caught by troopers in an escape pod bay, Leia grabs two guards' guns and kills all four, escaping as more arrive. Hoping to destroy the main power reactor, Luke wanders Corridor 37-A, noticing a lack of guards and sensing Vader awaiting him at an airlock near Corridors 37-B and TL-37. Nord opens the airlock and Luke, Vader, and the grenade are blown to space. With his bionic hand, Luke pulls himself into a freight lift as Vader uses the Force to walk against the wind and close the airlock, and Nord realizes his life is forfeit. Leia arrives at the ion cannon and tells Chewie and the droids to meet her at the aft docking bay. They call Luke, trapped by troops at Sections TH-10 and TH-11, and R2 makes the computer spray Luke's attackers with flame retardant foam. Lando exits the Falcon posing as a smuggler, bribes the troops with Gannarian narco-spice, and leaves before they realize he actually gave them slime yeast. Regrouping at the bay, Luke ties two comlinks together to resemble a thermo charge and scare the bay guards, and steals a cargo transport. Vader dispatches two TIEs to pursue, but Lando shoots them and brings the transport aboard, so Vader mans his TIE Advanced, winning until Lando hides behind dry-dock debris and Luke releases the ships's water supply. As Vader nits the instant ice wall, Nord fires the ion cannon at the Falcon and Vader, but instead of firing, Tarkin explodes, for Leia reversed the cannon's polarity modes. As they leave, she thanks Lando for his help. EnsViews Comic Review
