Dirk rose through the ranks of the Imperial Academy rather quickly, showing great aptitude at getting things done. Upon graduating, Dirk immediately became a crew member of Lord Vader's personal stardestroyer the Executor, at the rank of Deck Officer. While in this duty he learned valuable lessons of how the Empire worked, and, due to the continual untimely deaths of senior officers, he quickly rose through the ranks to Commander.

Dirk was originally ordered to find the stolen data tapes. But due to the increasing rebel activity in the outer rim he has recently been promoted to the position of Governor. His first act as Governor is to search for a suspected rebel base on Dantooine.
