Sideshow Collectibles: Get On The List

Posted By Dustin on February 24, 2006

Before wasting piles upon piles of money on eBay, let us all take a collective breath and look at this for a second. Fact: Sideshow's 1/6 scale figures are all limit run collectibles. This is done so they will retain their value over the course many years. We've seen some figures, like their Creature From The Black Lagoon sell for a couple hundred dollars on a fairly regular basis on eBay. At the same time, we've seen Bond Girl Xenia Onatopp not sell for as little as $9.99 on the same auction site. Obviously, some figures are hotter than others.

That said, we all know that Star Wars figures will always be in the Creature From The Black Lagoon camp… unless of course Sideshow makes Ice Cream Maker Guy. We can rest assured that he'll be partying with Xenia. (He's smart enough to know that Famke's camp ain't that bad of a place to kick it). So what's that tell us?

Whatchutokabout Willace?

Well, basically it means that the regular edition Jedi Luke will likely always fetch around $100 on the secondary market. We can all accept that right? The question is, why would you pay that much right now when Sideshow is still offering spots on the waiting list? Seems silly doesn't it? While there is a chance that getting on to the waiting list won't secure you the figure, you can count on it having a regular place on eBay. So why not take the chance and get on the Wait List?

It's a common mistake that collectors make when seeking popular pieces. A good example is the Blue Snaggletooth figure from the vintage Kenner line. Most collectors seeking this figure just assume that it is super rare and will never come around again, but history shows us that Blue Snaggleteeth (I don't think I'm coining the plural term here, but if I am allow me a moment to say 'yipee!') are on eBay on a regular basis. And the price always ends up being roughly the same.

What does that mean for you? In a nutshell it means that the SSC 1/6 scale figures will always find their way to eBay. So why be in a rush to drop down $100 plus dollars on one of these auctions when you can try your hand at the Wait List? It doesn't cost you any more that the regular price, so your patience could end up saving you over $50. What's more, Sideshow isn't about to rip their customers off, unlike many of the shady characters we see these days on eBay.

So what is the Wait List?

Well, it's kind of a golden ticket to the Chocolate Factory. And you may be Charlie, or Veruca Salt I guess but that's not really here or there, but you don't get a shot at it unless you get the chocolate bar.

From Sideshow Collectibles' web site:

Since our products have small world-wide editions, many lines tend to sell through before they reach our warehouse. From time to time some items do become available at the time of shipping, due to canceled orders or credit card declines. These items are then offered to individuals who have placed a Wait List Reservation for those items.

If product does become available for you, you will be notified via e-mail of the offer. You may decline the offer and cancel the item at this time. If you choose to keep the item, the Wait List reservation will automatically convert into an order after 3 days and an e-mail confirmation will be sent to your with your new T order #. You will notice that the Wait List Reservation will disappear from your online user account and be replaced with your new T order #.

Hook me up

Now since you've been patient enough to read through eight paragraphs I've taken the liberty to save you a bit of time by linking all the currently available Wait Lists. Simply click on the thumbnail of the character you want below to get signed up for the waiting list.

If the 1/6 scale figures has opened the doors to your Sideshow Collectibles obsession (dude, trust me, you're not alone) and you wish you didn't miss the boat on the 1/4 and 1/1 scale collectibles make sure to check out Sideshow's Star Wars home page to get in on the Wait Lists for those items as well.

What are my other options?

If all else fails, don't forget to check out our sponsors. As of now, four of our sponsors are accepting pre-orders on Sideshow figures. In all four cases the prices are much more reasonable than eBay, and you can't beat the confidence in knowing that the dealers are all among the most reputable in the world.
