CCG Flashback: Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker Posted By Josh on February 8, 2004
Arguably one of the most recognizable icons of the Star Wars Customizable Card Game, and perhaps in all of card gaming, Darth Vader's card, from the Premiere set, was enough to tip many tournaments to the Dark Side. Primarily used on the ground with his lightsaber and Grand Moff Tarkin, The Star Wars CCG Player's Committee (PC) reminds players and fans that the Dark Lord of the Sith was just as much a menace in a cockpit. Below is an alternate text, a "Virtual Card" created by the PC, that is legal to play in tournaments:
Adds 4 to power of anything he pilots. While aboard a starship, it is immune to attrition < 3. Once perbattle at same system (twice if with a Black Squadron pilot), may subtract 3 from a just drawn destiny. Immune to attrition < 5.
"Farmboy Luke", as this version of the famous Jedi was referred to, lacked the power it needed to be relied upon. Used primarily for his ability and destiny adders (e.g. Skywalkers, Don't Get Cocky, The Force Is Strong With This One), the PC wanted to make this version of Luke a little more impactful (no pun intended) with this virtual card:
Adds 3 to power of anything he pilots. Adds 3 to Attack Run total if piloting lead starfighter. If piloting at a battleground during your control phase, you may retrieve 1 Force or take Darklighter Spin into your hand.
The Star Wars CCG lives on through the efforts of the Star Wars CCG Player's Committee. Please visit their official site or e-mail Josh "Red 84" Radke to learn how to play or more about Virtual Cards and what the PC is all about.
