Sue Rostoni Speaks On Traviss Quitting SW

Posted By Mike on August 12, 2009

Following Karen Traviss' announcement that she will be quitting Star Wars writing following Imperial Commando #2, Sue Rostoni offered up some initial thoughts on the SW.com boards:

"re: Karen Traviss, Boba Fett, and The Clone Wars --- I just read Karen's blog -- and can't reply to the posts because it's Saturday and I don't have the whole story. Still, I knew there were issues with the Boba Fett title, so I imagine it will be cancelled. This doesn't mean that you won't be reading about Boba Fett -- He's a major character.

The new chronological issues that the animated series have brought up: Leland is working on mitigating the impact on old and new fiction, but until the TV series is completely finished, he won't know the extent of what he has to work with. None of this is new information --

I like Karen's writing, too. She's a very strong and passionate author."

She then went on to respond to a comment about Traviss making the announcement without keeping everyone in the loop:

"She may have, I don't know -- cuz it's Saturday and I won't know until Monday. She wouldn't have talked with me, anyway -- I'm not the boss."

We'll be sure keep you posted as more is learned about the situation.

Thanks to John of Starwarsbooksonline.com for the heads up!

UPDATE: More from Sue Rostoni at the SW.com boards speaking about the EU/TCW continuity speculation arising out of Karen Traviss' departure:

"As for the rest, try not to get too caught up in it -- I don't think it's as huge an issue as is being played out. Not to belittle continuity at all -- that's not what I'm saying -- just have faith in Leland, et al, to work this out. We've always hinted that there will be continuity issues and that we'd have to wait until further along into the animated series to resolve them all, but it will work out.

There's no reason not to enjoy the upcoming Atlas or any of the other books -- they're still valid and still fun. And nothing can negate the enjoyment you've experienced in reading all that has come before.

It's all gonna be okay. Really."

And...

"You folks are already coming up with some logical and viable explanations for this particular continuity challenge -- and it's this pondering and contemplating that all of you, plus Leland and the rest of us, will be doing as the series progresses. There are a lot of possible ways to incorporate the new material into the old and have it work together without a complete suspension of belief. It's all a part of the creative process."
